String Academy

As music educators and orchestra directors, Chase and Christi Chang bring a wealth of experience to young musicians. Mr. and Mrs. Chang have 48+ years of combined experience with adolescent music education.  With camp director, Dave Burfiend, they produced a student-centered program that is second to none. Summer String Academy provides a high quality experience for every student. Campers work with world class professional musicians. All the staff, from the orchestra teachers, conductors, instrumentalists, camp staff, and kitchen staff are highly skilled. Summer String Academy boasts a low campers to staff ratio, so we know your child will have a great experience.

Welcome to the Summer String Academy Orchestra Camp!

History

Chase and Christi Chang helped out at many of Nancy and Arthur Shaw's 3-day high school orchestra retreats at Lazy F Camp. The beautiful mountains, wildlife, and music making brought synergy to the overall setting. Mr. and Mrs. Chang saw how playing skill, camaraderie, and musicianship significantly increased over such a short amount of time. Naturally, they brought their own high school and middle school orchestras to Lazy F Camp. (Mr. Chang and Mr. Shaw also enjoyed the home cooked meals of the Lazy F kitchen staff.) Recognizing the benefits for our students, camp director, Dave Burfiend discussed the potential for an orchestra camp. Donning green T-shirts, Summer String Academy began its inaugural year in August 2015.
